RYAN SUN

Ryan Sun is an installation, video artist, curator, painter, and occasional poet. Now he lives and works in Auckland. His natural engagement with art is believed to have begun in his early age, as he often had many mythological questions that even his father struggled to answer. These inquiries laid the groundwork for him discovering his own method on knowing... later on through both academic multimedia art study and self-driven exploration, he became interested in learning various ancient techniques. He found that these persistent practices gave some of the answers he always sought.

From early 2000, he began working on several public conceptual projects, in museum and public, one of which was an environmentally-concerned installation titled Humdun, which took place in a rapidly growing area of West Auckland. The project attracted many local people and artists. RS continually participated in group shows and curated interwoven exhibitions with circles of artists, primarily between New Zealand, London and Japan, from 2018 to 2023. His art has shown a strong interest in observing a growing process or state in relatively random situations. This is reflected in two of his recent works: Green House at the group show TaiXi, and a video piece titled A Reverse-Spinning Water Droplet exhibited at Karume City Art Museum in Japan in 2023.
